Aug. 9th, 2009 10:12 pmIt's white, it's wet, it's crumbly, it's of varying textures. No, you're not needing yet another trip to the gyne, you've just encountered tofu.
I wasn't nearly as versed and comfortable with this, until
mewsgryphoncat spent a couple of years eating as a vegetarian. So now, whether I get it warm and fresh-made from the Lotus Food market, or prepackaged in water boxes, or cardboard cartons, I'm no longer intimidated by it.
I rarely get the warm-homemade version for two reasons: 1) is that transporting it home is a pain because it's so fragile, and 2) G-cat snarfs it like pudding when I turn my back. Also, I prefer my tofu to be more firm than silken. So - here are some things I've done with it so far:
Breakfast:
Tofu Scramble - Potatoes, onions and cubed tofu fried up with salt, pepper, butter, and a touch of paprika.
Panfried slices of tofu, on toast with a slice of cheese.
Lunch/Dinner:
Creamed spinach and tofu (served with rice)
Tofu and Black-bean Shepherd's Pie
Gen Tso's Tofu
Tofu and Vegetable Stir Fry
Sweet and Sour tofu
Rice, steamed with crumbled tofu and chopped onion (taught to me by Cris)
See?? Lots to do - and that's without letting G-cat eat it all for "dessert".
