So what *is* up, Doc?
May. 3rd, 2009 01:25 amA lot of people typically ask "so what's up with you?", or "what are you doing?" and - being me - I typically say, "nothing much", or "catching up with housework" or even "same thing as always". But the truth is that I DO occasionally do something a little different, and starting on Sunday next weekend (the 10th), it will eat up most of my Sunday, all of Monday, and bleed into Tuesday.
I've been involved since about January with a fundraiser for the Persad Center. You can check if out if you want, but essentially it's an LGBT assistance center, providing free treatment and counseling. Starting out as an AIDS treatment center, Persad is the second-oldest such place in the United States, with only one older center in New York.
Every Spring, there's a huge Art auction that provides more than half the costs needed to run the center each year. It's huge. So for most of Sunday (1 to 8) I'll be helping to set it up... and from 9am until about 1-2am on Monday I'll be helping to run and then tear down the event.
